Overview

The Advisor, Digital Policy, reports to the Director, Digital and will lead research, analysis, policy development and advisory services regarding innovation- and technology-related developments in the financial services industry such as consumer-driven banking (open banking) and artificial intelligence. The Advisor will lead the work with colleagues and member banks on matters affecting public policy, legislation and regulation related to the evolving spectrum of digital policy issues including, but not limited to, federal and provincial governments and agencies, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.

Description of Responsibilities

  • Lead research initiatives, provide strategic analysis and advice, and coordinate the development of industry policy positions for submissions and other advocacy initiatives;
  • Evaluate and report to colleagues and members on emerging provincial, national and international trends in digital policy as they relate to retail banking in Canada and recommend strategies for industry advocacy;
  • Initiate, develop and maintain positive working relationships with member banks, government officials, and other stakeholders;
  • Facilitate information flow and the development of advocacy policy positions between the Payments and Digital Division and other CBA Divisions; and
  • Assist the Payments and Digital Division with various projects as assigned.

Key Qualifications, Abilities and Skills

  • Post-secondary degree in economics, business, political science, consumer affairs or related program of study along with 5 - 7 years of payments and/or policy experience;
  • Very strong written and verbal presentation skills with the ability to craft and present comprehensive research products and persuasive advocacy positions;
  • A strong team player who works well with others both internally and externally;
  • Skilled in issues management and negotiation;
  • Understanding of public policy and legislative development processes
  • Ability to understand and analyze legislative and policy proposals to identify potential industry impact;
  • Strong original research, data-gathering, and data-analysis skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and issues;
  • Enthusiasm for emerging trends and issues relating to technology, digital policy initiatives and banking.
